A renovation of an existing house, previously extended and altered in the early 2000s by architect Tal de Lange. The house is organized as two wings, connected by a linear skylight that functions both as a spatial connection and a source of light.
The contrast between the wings is pronounced: one is anchored in the original structure, defined by low ceilings, while the other is conceived with greater height and a wider, more open space.
In this iteration, the existing envelope was preserved, while part of the ground floor footprint was subtracted to expand the front garden. This move generates an open, shaded ground level, establishing a distinct entrance sequence. The original columns were replaced with thin steel pillars, introducing both visual and structural lightness.
We relocated the axis of the staircase to open up the space, resulting in a renewed home that better adapts to the family’s dynamics.
